The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has updated its online reporting platform, making it easier for community members to report certain non-emergency incidents to police.
First launched in 2020, the SSMPS’s online reporting platform now has a modern look and two new report types: Fraud / Scams and Traffic / Unsafe Driving Concerns. Additionally, community members can now upload video evidence directly through the platform when submitting a report.
Online reporting is available for the following incident types:
- Break and Enter to Shed/Detached Garage or Outbuildings
- Damage/Mischief to Property
- Damage/Mischief to Vehicle
- Fraud/Scams
- Sexual Assault
- Shoplifting/Retail Theft
- Theft (Under $5,000)
- Theft from Vehicle
- Theft of Gas
- Traffic/Unsafe Driving Concerns
The platform also includes access to:
- Lost Property reporting
- Bicycle Registry
- Security Camera Registry
- Wandering/Vulnerable Persons Registry
Online reporting is intended for non-emergency incidents only. In an emergency, or if someone’s safety is at immediate risk, call 9-1-1.
Community members may still report non-emergency matters by calling the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service’s non-emergency line at 705-949-6300 or reporting in-person. However, using the online reporting platform can help streamline operations, reduce call volumes, and allow officer resources to be allocated more efficiently.
After submitting an online report, community members will receive a confirmation email, a temporary report case number, and a copy of the information they submitted. Reports are typically reviewed within three days, and an officer may follow up if further investigation is required.
