Formed in April 2009, the Sault Ste. Marie Police Chief’s Honour Guard proudly represents the Service at ceremonial functions throughout the community and beyond. The team is comprised of police officers, special constables, civilian employees, and retired members who volunteer their time to uphold tradition, honour, and service.
Members of the Honour Guard wear a distinctive high-collar uniform inspired by those worn by some of the first police officers in Sault Ste. Marie. The unit includes approximately 12 members and is led by the Ceremonial Sergeant Major.
The Honour Guard participates in a variety of formal events, including Remembrance Day ceremonies, VIP visits, police funerals, memorial services, and other significant occasions. They have represented the Service across North America, including serving as the Colour Party during the NHL Detroit Red Wings Police Appreciation Night.
One of the Honour Guard’s greatest privileges is escorting athletes during the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics—an honour that reflects their commitment to community, inclusion, and public service.
