The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Chief’s Community Advisory Committee provides a forum for community voices to inform policing priorities, initiatives, and emerging issues. The Committee aims to strengthen trust, transparency, and collaboration between the Service and the community it serves.
What the Committee Does
- Provides community-based advice to the Chief of Police
- Offers diverse perspectives on public safety and wellbeing
- Supports open, respectful dialogue
- Identifies emerging community concerns and opportunities
What the Committee Does Not Do
- Make decisions or direct police operations
- Review individual complaints or investigations
- Address personnel matters or court-related issues
- Replace existing oversight processes
Membership
Members are community residents from the jurisdiction of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, or surrounding area with strong ties to this community, who bring diverse lived experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives. Members must be at least 18 years of age.
Members serve in a voluntary, advisory capacity for up to two years. Members must be able to attend meetings—which are expected to occur, at minimum, four times per year—regularly. As part of the selection process, a criminal record check is required.
