Try Out the Sault Police Fitness Test

Approved by: 1030 - April 9, 2024

Are you fit enough to be a police officer? Sault Police are giving you the chance to find out during Police Week 2024.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is offering four fitness test practice sessions this May for those who are interested in a career in policing. Sessions are taking place on Monday, May 13 at 8:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. and Tuesday, May 14 at 6:00 p.m. Capacity is limited to 20 participants per session.

“The fitness test can be a daunting part of the application process for some folks,” says Derek MacFarlane, Sergeant of Uniform Recruitment. “This is a great opportunity to come out and try the test to see where you’re at and what you might need to work on in a supportive and encouraging environment.”

While the sessions are intended to be for learning and practice, those who pass the practice test may choose to proceed in the recruitment process. Those who do not pass will receive constructive feedback on how to improve their fitness.

The fitness test practice sessions are part of Sault Police’s broader recruitment strategy. The Service has been approved to hire seventeen new officers over the next four years and, with several members becoming eligible for retirement soon, additional job openings are likely.
