Sault Police Seeking Community Feedback on Public Communications

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service (SSMPS) is inviting residents of Sault Ste. Marie and Prince Township to share their thoughts on how the Service communicates with the community.

A new public survey has been launched to better understand how residents receive information from Sault Police, what types of information they find most valuable, and where improvements can be made.

The survey will explore several areas of public communication, including the use of social media, the Sault Police website, media releases, crime statistics, public safety information, and updates on community initiatives.

“Effective communication is an important part of building and maintaining public trust,” says Chief of Police Brent Duguay. “We want to ensure the information we share is accessible, relevant, and meaningful to the people we serve. Just as importantly, we want to hear directly from residents about what we’re doing well and where we can improve.”

While Sault Police regularly shares information through its website, social media platforms, media partners and community events, the Service recognizes the importance of continually evaluating how that information reaches the public.

This is the first in a planned series of public surveys designed to strengthen community engagement and provide residents with more opportunities to share their perspectives on policing and public safety.

Soon, the Service along with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Board will begin planning for its next Strategic Plan. There will be additional opportunities for public input during that process to help ensure community perspectives are considered when establishing future priorities and objectives.

“Community engagement should be an ongoing conversation,” says Chief Duguay. “This survey is an important first step in expanding those conversations. As we work toward our next Strategic Plan, we want residents to have meaningful opportunities to share their experiences, concerns and expectations of their police service.”

Residents are encouraged to complete the survey, by following this link.

The survey will remain open until November 26, 2026.

Feedback collected through the survey will help guide future communication efforts and identify opportunities to better connect with the communities we serve.
