The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service (SSMPS) is establishing a new Chief’s Community Advisory Committee and is inviting members of the community to apply.
The Committee will provide a forum for community voices to help inform policing priorities, service initiatives, and emerging community issues. The initiative is designed to strengthen trust, transparency, and collaboration between the SSMPS and the community it serves.
The Committee will consist of community members with diverse lived experiences, backgrounds, perspectives, and connections to Sault Ste. Marie and Prince Township.
Members will serve in a voluntary, advisory capacity and will provide feedback and insight on issues related to community safety, wellbeing, inclusion, communication, and public trust.
“This Committee is an important step in strengthening meaningful dialogue between the Sault Police and the people we serve,” said Chief Brent Duguay. “We want to hear directly from people with different experiences and perspectives so we can continue building a modern police service that reflects and responds to the needs of our community.”
We recognize that meaningful dialogue and effective community partnerships require representation from a broad range of voices, perspectives, and backgrounds. We encourage interest from youth (ages 18-25), seniors, newcomers, Indigenous community members, community members from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and individuals with lived experience related to mental health, addictions, homelessness, disability, and other matters related to the safety and wellbeing of our community.
Applicants must reside in—or have strong ties to—the Sault Ste. Marie area and demonstrate an interest in community safety and collaboration. Members will be expected to participate respectfully in discussions, attend meetings regularly, and uphold confidentiality requirements. Applicants must also be at least 18 years of age. A criminal record check is required.
Applications are being accepted until 3:00 p.m. on June 9, 2026.
