Sault Police Re-Open Constable and Special Constable Applicant Pools

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is re-opening its Constable and Special Constable applicant pools and encouraging qualified applicants to consider a career serving the communities of Sault Ste. Marie and Prince Township.

The SSMPS welcomes applications from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, including individuals currently working in law enforcement, as well as those exploring a new career path in policing.

“Policing is a career built on service, integrity, and compassion,” says Darin Rossetto, Inspector of Corporate Development and Emergency Management. “We’re looking for applicants who want to make a real difference, work as part of a strong team, and help keep our community safe.”

Sault Ste. Marie offers an exceptional quality of life for those looking to build a meaningful career while enjoying a balanced lifestyle. With access to year-round outdoor recreation and comparatively affordable homeownership opportunities, the community is an ideal place to live and work.

Many members begin their careers with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service as Special Constables. Current duties in this role include courthouse and prisoner security, electronic fingerprinting, serving legal documents, and other operational responsibilities.

Constables are responsible for preserving the peace, preventing crime, assisting victims, and enforcing the law. Successful applicants are required to attend the Ontario Police College as part of the recruitment process.

Those interested in supporting the police behind-the-scenes can apply for various open civilian positions, including for Part-Time Civilian Relief Staff. Duties include transcription, relieving 911 Communicators, and general clerical assignments.
