Sault Police Implement Security Camera Registry

Approved by: 1030 - August 25, 2023

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service (SSMPS) is now offering a voluntary Security Camera Registry. With support from the community, the registry can improve the efficiency of police investigations.

The Security Camera Registry is a community-based crime prevention opportunity and investigative resource, enlisting the support of the people of Sault Ste. Marie and Prince Township.

“Security cameras are not only a helpful tool for police but are an excellent crime prevention tool for residences and businesses,” states Central Support Bureau Sergeant Jeremy Stevenson.

Community members can voluntarily register their home and/or business security cameras through a secure, confidential online form located on the Sault Police website.

Registered addresses will be mapped for Sault Police members to quickly and effectively direct resources when investigating incidents in your neighbourhood. Your participation in this program can deter and prevent crime.

The registry will not allow Sault Police to monitor or automatically access the security camera’s footage. Rather, it will point officers in the direction of community members with cameras who can assist with an investigation.

Sault Police encourage residents and business owners in Sault Ste. Marie and Prince Township to register their security cameras online to assist in the program at www.saultpolice.ca/cameraregistry.
