One Charged with Resisting and Assaulting Peace Officer, Drug and Weapon Offences
On April 15, 2024, detectives with the Drug Enforcement Unit, with the assistance of Patrol Services, charged 29-year-old Devon Phillips with possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, assaulting and resisting a peace officer, and several other offences.
Around 3:30 p.m., officers patrolling Gibbs Street saw the accused, who was wanted on a warrant, riding their bicycle and conducted a stop. When officers advised the accused they were being arrested on the strength of a warrant, the accused ran away. Officers caught up with the accused who continued to physically resist arrest. While being apprehended, the accused attempted to pull an officer to the ground by grabbing their vest. Officers gained control of the accused, and they were arrested.
A search of the accused found them to be in possession of approximately six grams of suspected fentanyl, a knife, and a variety of paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking. The approximate street value of drugs seized is $1,000.
The accused is charged with:
- Possession of Schedule I Substance for Purpose of Trafficking
- Resist Peace Officer
- Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Failure to Comply with Release Order x3
- Failure to Attend Court After Having Appeared
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
