One Charged with Possession, Obstructing and Resisting Peace Officer

On April 9, 2024, officers with Patrol Services charged 44-year-old Christopher Mercer with obstructing and resisting a peace officer and possession of a schedule I substances.

Around 10:00 p.m., 911 Communicators received a report of a suspicious person in a parking lot in the 200 block of McNabb Street. Officers were dispatched to the area where they located someone matching the suspect’s description. When officers spoke with them, they provided a false identity. Officers were able to identify the suspect as the accused and learned they were wanted on an Ontario Provincial Police warrant. While apprehending the accused, they unsuccessfully attempted to resist arrest and run away. They were arrested.

A subsequent search found the accused to be in possession of approximately one gram of suspected fentanyl and one gram of suspected heroin.

The accused is charged with:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance x2
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing and the Ontario Provincial Police attended and arrested the accused on the strength of their warrant.
