Former Deputy Chief Brent Duguay Appointed Chief of Police – Message from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Board

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Board is proud to announce the appointment of our new Chief of Police, Brent Duguay, effective August 6, 2025. A five-year contract has been signed.

Chief Duguay brings to this role more than 30 years of dedicated service with the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. Throughout a distinguished career, he has consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the safety, wellbeing, and progress of our community and organization.

A second-generation officer, Chief Duguay was raised in a policing family, deeply rooted in the values of integrity, service, and leadership. His father, who retired with the rank of Inspector, helped instil a passion for policing that has guided his journey through the ranks.

“It is an incredible honour to serve as Chief of Police in the community where I was born, raised and served as a police officer for more than three decades,” said Chief Duguay. “The Sault Police has shaped who I am, both professionally and personally. I look forward to continuing to work alongside the dedicated members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service to build a safer and stronger community for everyone.”

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service Board is confident in Chief Duguay’s leadership and commitment to modern policing.

“Chief Duguay embodies the values and vision we believe are essential for the future of policing in Sault Ste. Marie and Prince Township,” said Nuala Kenny, Chair of the Police Service Board. “His decades of service, deep community roots, and forward-thinking leadership will serve our community well in the years to come. The Board is proud to support his appointment.”

Known for extensive operational experience on major investigations, including Joint Forces Operations involving drugs and organized crime with other police agencies across the province, Chief Duguay is poised to guide the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service through the next chapter of its proud history.

Please join us in congratulating Chief Duguay on this well-earned appointment.

An official swearing-in ceremony will take place in the coming weeks.

The process to fill the now-vacant Deputy Chief of Police position will also begin in the coming weeks.
