Aggravated Assault Charge Laid
On November 14, 2023, officers with Patrol Services charged 30-year-old Sydney Benwell with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and several other offences.
On September 2, 2023, 911 Communicators received a report of an altercation in the 200 block of Albert Street East. Upon arrival, officers found one person with serious injuries. They were taken to hospital. Investigation revealed the accused, who was known to the victim, had hit them numerous times with a metal pipe before fleeing the scene. Police were unable to locate the accused, so a warrant was obtained.
On November 14, officers located the accused and arrested them on the strength of the warrant.
The accused is charged with:
- Aggravated Assault
- Assault With a Weapon
- Failure to Comply with Probation Order x4
- Failure to Comply with Release Order
The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
