Two Charged with Robbery Using Firearm

On June 24, 2024, 19-year-old Garnet Gerald of Thunder Bay, Ontario, and a 17-year-old from North York, Ontario, were charged with robbery using a firearm.

Around 2:15 a.m., 911 Communicators received a report of a robbery of a vehicle at gunpoint in the 500 block of Trunk Road. Officers were dispatched to speak with the victim. An investigation revealed the victim, a rideshare service driver, had picked up the two accused in the 700 block of Queen Street East.

Upon arriving at their destination, both accused pointed firearms at the victim and demanded they get out of the vehicle. The victim complied and no physical injuries were sustained. The two accused drove away.

Around 10:00 a.m., both accused were located by the Ontario Provincial Police on Highway 17 East at St. Joseph Island and were arrested. Two BB guns were seized. Custody of both accused was transferred to Sault Police.

Both accused are charged with:

  • Robbery Using Firearm
  • Using Firearm in Commission of Offence
  • Careless Use of Firearm
  • Pointing a Firearm

Both accused are being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
