Two Charged with Kidnapping and Weapon Offences
On October 8, 2024, officers with Patrol Services, with assistance from Detectives with Investigation Services, charged 19-year-old Carter Barnes, hereby referred to as the first accused, and 18-year-old Austyn Taylor, hereby referred to as the second accused, with kidnapping and weapon offences.
Around midnight 911 Communicators received a report of someone being forcibly removed from a residence in the 1000 block of Second Line West at gunpoint and driven away from the area.
A short time later, officers located a vehicle matching the description provided on South Eden Street. Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop and three people were placed under investigative detention; the two accused and a person later identified as the victim. The victim was released unconditionally and did not report physical injuries. The victim and the two accused are known to each other.
A subsequent search of the vehicle found the two accused to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun, approximately 10 grams of suspected cocaine, and packaging materials.
Further, the first accused was found to be in possession of approximately 12 percocet tablets.

- Possession of Prohibited Weapon
- Assault with a Weapon
The second accused is charged with,
- Using Firearm in Commision of Offence x2

Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
