Two Charged in Incident Involving Theft, Machete
On November 12, 2024, officers with Patrol Services charged 49-year-old Cecil Cuthbertson (hereafter referred to as the first accused) with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and theft. 21-year-old Brandon Zimmerman (hereafter referred to as the second accused) was also charged with theft in the same incident.
Around 2:15 p.m., 911 Communicators received a report of someone having been threatened with a weapon in the 400 block of Great Northern Road. Officers were dispatched to the area, where they located two suspects matching the descriptions provided by the caller. They were arrested. A search of the first accused located a machete, which was seized.
An investigation revealed the two accused were stealing items from outside a business when confronted by the victim. The first accused proceeded to threaten the victim with a machete. The first accused, along with the second accused, then left the business with a cart full of items valued at more than $3,900. The victim did not sustain physical injuries.
The first accused is charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Theft Under $5,000
The second accused is charged with:
- Theft Under $5,000
Both accused were released on undertakings and are scheduled to appear in court on January 20, 2025.
