School Crossing Guard Safety
The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and the City of Sault Ste. Marie continue to field complaints regarding motorists ignoring school crossing guards stop signs near area schools.
It is imperative all motorists and pedestrians obey crossing guards when they are crossing our children safely across busy city streets.
Anyone found not obeying school crossing stop signs can face a fine of $365 and receive four demerit points on their licence.
The Highway Traffic Act states; where a school crossing guard displays a school crossing stop sign as provided in subsection (2), the driver of any vehicle or street car approaching the school crossing guard shall stop before reaching the crossing and shall remain stopped until all persons, including the school crossing guard, have cleared the roadway and it is safe to proceed.
Please, do your part to keep our young people and crossing guards safe.
