Sawed-Off Shotgun Seized, Two Charged
On December 13, 2024, detectives with the Crime Suppression Unit and Drug Enforcement Unit, with assistance from the Emergency Services Unit, charged 28-year-old Sebastian Denis-Beaulieu (hereafter referred to as the first accused) and 26-year-old Colin Wawia (hereafter referred to as the second accused) with multiple firearm offences.
On December 12, 2024, detectives began an investigation into an unlawful firearm at a residence in the 100 block of Elliott Road. On December 13, 2024, detectives located this accused in the 400 block of Great Northern Road. They were arrested.
Detectives executed a search warrant at the first accused’s residence. Upon entry, detectives located the second accused within the residence. They were arrested.
A search of the residence located a sawed-off shotgun and ten rounds of ammunition.
The first accused is charged with:
- Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device, or Ammunition x2
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x2
- Possession of Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
The second accused is charged with:
- Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device, or Ammunition x2
- Failure to Comply with Undertaking x2
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) and Crime Suppression Unit (CSU)
Members of the Drug Enforcement Unit and Crime Suppression Unit work cooperatively to investigate all aspects of investigations involving drug matters, organized crime, human trafficking, high risk offenders and street crime within the jurisdiction of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. The Units also work on special projects targeting drug matters and street level crimes and take part in joint enforcement projects with other agencies across the province. Some of the assigned officers also have mandated responsibilities provincially to assist with investigations throughout the province involving Outlaw Motorcycle gangs (BEU), asset forfeiture (PAFU) and intelligence (CISO).
