One Charged with Operation While Impaired, Possession of Drugs
On October 24, 2024, officers with Patrol Services charged 44-year-old Melanie Tomatuk with operation while impaired and possession of a schedule I substance.
Around 10:30 p.m., officers patrolling Bay Street saw a running vehicle in a parking lot with its driver side door open and the driver asleep at the wheel inside. Officers woke the driver, who identified themselves as the accused. Upon speaking with the driver, officers developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs.
Officers conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST), which the accused failed. The accused was arrested and transported to hospital for blood testing. A search of the accused’s vehicle located approximately 0.55 grams of suspected fentanyl and approximately 0.70 grams of suspected cocaine.
The accused is charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
- Possession of Schedule I Substance
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on December 16, 2024.
