One Charged with Operation While Impaired, Dangerous Operation, Possession of Cocaine

Approved by: 335 - December 9, 2024

On December 8, 2024, officers with Patrol Services charged 25-year-old Cameron Mackenzie with operation while impaired, dangerous operation, and possession of a schedule I substance.

Around 3:20 a.m., 911 Communicators received a report of a vehicle driving very slowly but erratically, including into and out of snowbanks, around Wellington Street East and Bruce Street. Officers were dispatched to the area where they located the vehicle turning into a parking lot in the 200 block of Wellington Street West, striking a snowbank as it did so. Officers conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle.

Upon speaking with the driver, officers developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs and/or alcohol. The accused provided a breath sample into an approved screening device, which determined their blood alcohol concentration was zero. The accused then participated in a Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) and performed poorly. They were arrested. A search of the accused located approximately 0.6 grams of suspected cocaine.

The accused was transported to the Police Services Building where a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) performed an evaluation, which determined they were impaired by drug(s).

The accused is charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Drug Concentration
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on January 6, 2025.
