One Charged with Operation While Impaired, Dangerous Operation
On December 3, 2024, officers with Patrol Services charged 29-year-old Gordon Kirkpatrick with operation while impaired and dangerous operation.
Around 4:30 p.m., 911 Communicators received multiple reports of an erratic driver in the 0-100 block of Avery Road who had hit multiple snowbanks and was becoming aggressive with bystanders. Officers were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers located a pickup truck in the snowbank and the accused walking toward them.
Upon speaking with the accused, who was identified as the driver, officers developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and/or drugs. Officers also observed, what is believed to be, a partially smoked marijuana cigarette in the vehicle. They were arrested. The accused provided a breath sample into an approved screening device, which indicated no alcohol was present in their blood. The accused was then transported to hospital to have a blood sample taken.
The accused is charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
- Dangerous Operation
- Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available (under the Cannabis Act)
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on January 6, 2025.
