One Charged with Operation While Impaired

Approved by: 1030 - February 18, 2025

On February 14, 2025, officers with Patrol Services charged 44-year-old Amrinder Brar with operation while impaired and refusal to comply with a breath demand.

Around 7:15 p.m., 911 Communicators received a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Old Garden River Road near Third Line East. It was reported a vehicle travelling in the wrong lane had driven into a snowbank. Officers were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers located the driver—later identified as the accused—being assessed by EMS.

Upon speaking with the driver, officers developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. Officers read the accused a demand for a breath sample. The accused provided a sample into an approved screening device, which registered as a fail. They were arrested. The accused was transported to the Police Services Building where they provided one suitable sample—which registered above the legal limit—but refused to provide another.

The accused is charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand

The accused was released on an appearance notice.
