One Charged with Numerous Weapon Offences
On November 5, 2024, detectives with the Crime Suppression Unit, with assistance from the Emergency Services Unit, charged 33-year-old Derrick Derasp with several weapon offences.
Around 10:30 a.m., officers on patrol saw the accused driving on Korah Road and knew they were wanted on an outstanding warrant. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the accused pulled into a driveway on Rossmore Road and ran into the residence. Officers contained the residence and, while waiting for a warrant to enter the property, the accused exited the residence and was arrested.
Inside the accused’s vehicle, officers saw a prohibited, spring-loaded knife. The knife was seized.
The accused is charged with:
- Careless Use of Weapon
- Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court x3
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
- Occupant of Motor Vehicle Knowing there was Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
- Possession of Weapon Contrary to Prohibition Order x2
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
