One Charged with Assault with Weapon, Pointing Firearm
On December 13, 2024, officers with Patrol Services, with assistance from Investigation Services, charged 39-year-old Derek Meyers-Lewis with assault with a weapon and several firearm and weapon offences.
Around 7:00 a.m., 911 Communicators received a report of someone pointing a firearm at a driver of a snow removal service outside a residence on Alexandra Street. Officers were dispatched to the residence where they located, and arrested, the accused.
An investigation revealed the accused had approached the snow removal vehicle and began hitting it with a shovel before opening the door and attempting to strike the driver with the shovel. Once the victim was able to get the accused out of the vehicle and lock the door, the accused took a firearm out of their bag and pointed it at the victim. The victim drove away and did not sustain any physical injuries.
The accused is charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon
- Careless Use of Firearm
- Carrying Concealed Weapon
- Pointing a Firearm
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
