One Charged in Downtown Break and Enters
On October 16, 2024, officers with Patrol Services , with assistance from detectives with Investigation Services, charged 46-year-old Charles Walton in relation to several break and enters in downtown Sault Ste. Marie.
Around 6:50 a.m. on October 13, 2024, 911 Communicators received reports of broken windows at multiple properties in the downtown core. One business in the 600 block of Queen Street East, two businesses in the 700 block of Queen Street East, and one business in the 100 block of East Street sustained property damage. Property was also taken from one of the businesses.
An investigation identified the suspect as the accused. The accused was located around 3:00 a.m. on October 16, 2024, in the 700 block of Wellington Street East. They were arrested.
Further investigation also placed the accused at a break and enter which took place on January 7, 2024, at a residence in the 0-100 block of George Street.
The accused is charged with:
- Break and Enter a Place – Commit Indictable Offence x2
- Break and Enter a Place – Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
- Break and Enter a Dwelling House – Commit Indictable Offence
- Mischief – Under $5,000 x2
- Theft – Under $5,000
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
