Halloween Safety
Halloween is here, and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service wants your trick-or-treaters to have a fa-boo-lous evening by keeping safety top of mind. Here are some fang-tastic safety tips that will ensure a skele-fun time:
Costume Safety
- Fasten reflective tape or glow sticks to costumes and bags and/or bring a flashlight to help drivers see you
- Wear well-fitting masks, costumes, and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips, and falls
Trick-or-Treating Safety
- Don’t venture out alone – go with a group or trusted adult
- Walk, don’t run
- Look both ways before crossing the street
- Use crosswalks wherever possible
- Use sidewalks whenever possible (if there is no sidewalk, walk on the left-hand side of the street facing traffic)
- Eat only factory-wrapped treats; don’t eat homemade treats made by strangers
- Only visit well-lit houses; don’t stop at dark houses
- Don’t enter a stranger’s home or vehicle
- Avoid animals you don’t know
- Carry emergency contact information
Driver’s Tips:
- Expect increased foot traffic – drive slowly and cautiously
- Enter and exit driveways slowly
- Take extra care at intersections
- Indulging in boos? DON’T drink and drive
Happy Halloween from Sault Police!
