Additional Charges Laid in November 15 Incident, Two Others Charged
On December 4, 2024, detectives with Investigation Services charged 26-year-old Nicholas Berto (hereafter referred to as the first accused) with additional offences in relation to a search warrant executed on November 15, 2024. On December 5, 2024, detectives also charged 54-year-old Robert Berto (hereafter referred to as the second accused) and 62-year-old Deborah Martynuck-Berto (hereafter referred to as the third accused) with several firearm and drug offences in connection with the same incident.
The first accused is charged with the following additional offences:
- Failure to Comply with Release Order – Other Than to Attend Court x5
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x8
This accused continues to be held in custody at the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre.
The second and third accused are charged with:
- Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device, or Ammunition x2
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm x2
- Possession of Schedule I Substance for Purpose of Trafficking x3
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm x2
The second and third accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
