Cst. Donald Doucet Memorial

Doucet

May 14, 2006 was a dark day for the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service and the community as a whole. That is the day we lost one of our finest officers, 12 year police veteran Constable Donald Doucet. Constable Doucet, or Donny to those of us who knew him best, was a fun loving individual who was liked and respected by all members of our Service.

At 2:45 a.m. on May 14, 2006 Constable Doucet was the passenger in a cruiser on patrol. The cruiser was in a collision with another vehicle. Constable Doucet was critically injured and succumbed to his injuries shortly after the collision. He is the only officer in the history of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service to be killed in the line of duty.

A family man, Constable Doucet was survived by his wife and two daughters.

A hero in life, not in death, Constable Doucet’s name lives on in a number of areas of our city. The bridge on Highway 17 that crosses the Root River bears his name, as does the Donald Doucet Youth Centre for young offenders.
