One Charged with Operation While Impaired, Dangerous Operation
On March 17, 2025, officers were Patrol Services charged 29-year-old Zachary Gruyters with operation while impaired and dangerous operation.
Around 8:30 p.m., 911 Communicators received a traffic complaint regarding a vehicle in the 200 block of Fifth Avenue. Officers were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers located a running vehicle parked on the left side of the road with the driver asleep inside and a child in the back seat.
After several unsuccessful attempts to wake the accused, officers shook them awake and soon developed grounds to believe their ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drugs. They were arrested. The accused was transported to hospital to provide a blood sample for screening. They were also evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) who determined they were impaired by drugs.
The accused is charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – Drug and/or Alcohol
- Operation While Impaired – Blood Drug Concentration
- Dangerous Operation
The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on May 12, 2025.
