Uniform Recruitment

The Uniform Recruitment division is responsible for recruiting, interviewing and conducting background investigations for everyone who applies to become a sworn officer of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service. That includes Experienced Officers, Recruit Constables, Special Constables and Auxiliary Members. The Staff Sergeant of Uniform Recruitment is supported by Human Resources, including the part-time Background Investigators.

Uniform Recruitment is proactively looking for professional and motivated individuals who are eager to join our team as an Experienced Officer, Recruit Constable, Special Constable or an Auxiliary Member.

Uniform Recruitment works alongside Human Resources to review all applications to ensure applicants meet the criteria necessary to become a sworn officer with our Service. Uniform Recruitment conducts interviews with applicants, completes background investigations and liaises with psychologists and medical doctors to ensure the application process is efficient and professional.

Staff Sergeant Vicki Monto

Staff Sergeant Vicki Monto

Staff Sergeant Monto has served the City of Sault Ste. Marie as a Police Officer for more than 26 years. Throughout her career, she has performed a variety of duties in both Patrol and Investigation Services and most recently in Uniform Recruitment.

While in Investigations Services, she worked in the Morality Unit, Major Crime Unit and General Investigations. During this time, Staff Sergeant Monto served as the Elder Abuse Coordinator and had the opportunity to work closely with a number of community partner agencies.

In 2014, she served as Sergeant Patrol Services and in 2019 Staff Sergeant Patrol Services.

Staff Sergeant Monto supports various community partners. She has enjoyed participating in a number of Special Olympics Torch Run and Go for the Gold and I Love to Move initiatives through the Centre for Social Justice and Good Works.

Staff Sergeant Monto has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Degree from Lake Superior State University and a Law and Security Diploma from Sault College. She prides herself as being a lifelong learner and loves to be active outdoors in our naturally gifted community.
