Vaccination of Police Service Members

Approved by: 361 - September 17, 2021

The role of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is to uphold public safety for everyone in our community. In order to ensure we are protecting the community to the best of our ability, adhering to public health recommendations on vaccinations is paramount.

Effective November 5, 2021 all members of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, unless they have an approved exemption, will have received the recommended vaccinations to help protect the member and the public against COVID-19.

“We bear a responsibility to protect the community in every way possible,” says Chief Hugh Stevenson. “No member of the Service will have direct contact with a member of the public, unless they are vaccinated in accordance with Public Health recommendations and regulations.”

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Association, which represents uniform and civilian members, and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Senior Officers Association, which represents executive leadership members, support this process.
