One Charged with Assault with a Weapon

On July 9, 2026, officers with Patrol Services charged 50-year-old Ted Smith with assault with a weapon and identity fraud.

Around 8:20 a.m., 911 Communicators received a report of a person with a weapon in the 0-100 block of Church Street. Officers were dispatched to the scene. An investigation revealed the accused made a threatening gesture with a machete during a verbal altercation with a victim who is not known to them. The accused, who had an outstanding warrant for their arrest, also falsely identified themself as someone else to police.

The accused was arrested. Upon searching the accused’s bag, officers located and seized a machete.

The accused is charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Personation with Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution, or Obstruct Justice (Identity Fraud)
  • Failure to Attend Court After Having Appeared

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
