Man Charged with Theft of a Motor Vehicle
On August 31, 2021 officers with Patrol Services charged 18-year-old Daniel Magnan with theft of a motor vehicle.
Around 11:15 a.m. police received a call of a single vehicle collision at the corner of Queen Street and Huron Street. Around 11:18 a.m. police received a call of another single vehicle collision in the area of Carmen’s Way and Second Line West. The vehicle collided with railway crossing barriers, causing significant damage. An off duty officer observed the driver of the vehicle attempt to flee the area on foot. The off duty officer caught up to the driver and detained him.
On duty officers responded around 11:20. They were able to identify the accused and while speaking with him developed grounds to believe his ability to operate a vehicle was impaired by alcohol and/or drugs. He was arrested. Officers read the accused a blood demand and he refused to comply. During the investigation officers determined the accused is not a licenced driver.
He is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, impaired driving – alcohol and drugs, dangerous operation, refusal to comply with a demand, possession of property obtained by crime and breaching a probation order to keep the peace and be of good behavior.
He was held for bail court and remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 7, 2021.
